Take a look inside the abandoned World War II TNT bunkers of Alvira, Pennsylvania β a ghost town hidden deep in the woods. Once seized by the U.S. government during wartime, this forgotten site remains remarkably intact and full of mystery.
Once part of the Susquehanna Ordnance Depot, these 149 concrete "igloo" bunkers were built to store TNT during the war, but the facility was abandoned before ever being fully used. Why? Partly because of the rise of the Manhattan Project and the atomic bomb, which changed the direction of modern warfare forever.
