A week before Putin invaded Ukraine I had the chance to explore a hidden and forgotten Soviet military base in the old Russian controlled East Germany (GDR) that is now part of Germany. Walking through this place reminded me of what a city would look like after being hit by tactical field use nuclear weapon (neutron bomb). No real structural damage, just the empty lifeless shells of buildings remain.
Now this sprawling place sits windowless, empty, unused, and forgotten.
