Episode 15 takes us to these amazing WWII Military Bunkers. In 1942 the federal government decided they needed a place to store and create explosives such as TNT, grenades, and other. supplies. So, they used eminent domain to purchase all the land in this little town called Alvira. 100 residents were forced to accept buyouts so the government could completely level their homes and create the Pennsylvania Ordinance Works. The works manufactured and stored TNT, but only 11 months after it was constructed, it was closed down due to the lack of TNT and other explosives needed. Some bunkers didn't even get used at all. The government also promised the town folk that they could buy their land back after the war... but that never happened. Instead they gave 4,000 acres to The Federal Bureau of Prisons so they could created Allenwood State Penitentiary. They gave the other 3,000 acres to the state of Pennsylvania, including where the bunkers sit today. This became known as state game lands 252.
