In this video I will give you a real world common sense formula for calculating how much ammunition you should have on hand right now. This formula for ammo storage is based on the given possible scenarios that you would fall into where you would need ammo.

Your amount of ammo storage can be calculated based on 5 possible scenarios. The first being home defense. The second is community defense or preparing for an active shooter or some other small scale weapons engagement. Number three is mob violence. Number four is preparation for war (but we hope that never happens and let’s pray that it doesn’t). And number five you will see answered in the video.

These ammo buying and storage numbers are based upon a formula using a Primary, Secondary and Specialty weapon load out calculation as follows.

Primary weapon ammunition needs:

Full combat load out = 7 full magazines.

Example AR 15: 7 x 30 rounds = 210 rounds for a full combat load out.

Round that number up to 250. And plan for one use of 250 rounds each calendar quarter. 4 x 250=1000 rounds.

1000 rounds a year for four years planning = 4000 rounds.

Secondary weapon ammunition needs:

Full combat load out = 4 full magazines

Example Glock 19: 4 x 15 rounds = 60 rounds for a full combat load out.

And plan for one use of 60 rounds each calendar quarter. 4 x 60 = 240 rounds. Round that number up to 250.

250 rounds a year for four years planning = 1000 rounds.

Specialty weapon ammunition needs:

Full combat load out = 3 full loads of your weapon choice

Example 20 gauge Remington 870: 3 x 5 rounds = 15 rounds for a full combat load out.

And plan for one use of 15 rounds each calendar quarter. 4 x 15 = 60 rounds.

60 rounds a year for four years planning = 240 rounds or let’s just say 250 rounds.

So for the specialty example you would want to have 250 rounds of each specialty shell for your 20 gauge shotgun. Bird shot from number 2 down to number 6, buck shot and slugs.
