Anytime SHTF is mentioned we almost immediately end up talking about the cliche “Red Dawn” scenario. Guys spend so much time focused on tactical gear, rifles and warfare strategy and they don’t stop to think about how unrealistic that scenario really is. Over the last few years we have seen SHTF scenarios play out in real time to include mass rioting, weather related incidents, medical lockdowns and supply shortages. While each person has their own barometer for what constitutes SHTF, all of these scenarios are much more realistic emergency situations than the internet fantasy of foreign invaders and all out gunfights. In the overwhelming majority of emergency scenarios the average person is going to be perfectly well served by having an a solid concealed carry firearm. Long guns of course have their place, and by no means should be neglected, however the focus on them based strictly on fighting capability is not practical. We tend do downplay the importance and practical application of handguns in an emergency situation, particularly one where we need to be mobile. For the average person, the handgun will be the primary defensive tool in most emergency scenarios.
